Steve Pickett coached Middle Track & Field at Effingham Junior High and Effingham Central for 22 years. His teams won 2 IESA State trophies, 23 District and 11 Sectional titles. Thirty times his athletes earned IESA State medals. Steve did so much more than win championships. His track teams were known as “Pickett’s Army” as in a school of 515 students, he regularly had over 200 boys and girls out for track & field. Once, he had as many as 225 on the team. He, also, hosted many meets, Invitationals, Districts and Sectionals. Steve helped established the Effingham Flyers AAU Track Club and ran the Effingham Junior High Simmer Track & Field Camp.
