2020 ITCCCA CLINIC SPEAKER: Patrick Sheridan

Patrick Sheridan is the lucky head coach for boys’ cross country and boys’ track and field at Elmwood Park High School, located just outside of Chicago.  He has been at Elmwood Park since 2007 as a Social Studies Teacher and an assistant boys’ track and field coach (distance and pole vault) and before that was an assistant track coach (pole vault) at Fenton High School for three years.  In 2015, Patrick became the head boys’ cross country coach and in 2017 became the head boys’ track and field coach.  He has also served as an assistant wrestling coach.

Patrick was a 4 year xc/wrestling/track and field athlete at York High School, a part of 9 Conference Championship teams and 6 IHSA State Trophy earning teams with State Championships in xc/track and field his senior years and was coached by the legendary Mr. Joe Newton.  He went on to be a 4 year track and field athlete at Millikin University, earning all conference honors his jr/sr seasons in the pole vault.

Patrick has guided Elmwood Park boys’ xc/track and field teams to conference championships in xc (2016) and track and field (2017 and 2018), ending droughts in both sports dating back to the early/mid 1990’s.
*2 state qualifying xc teams since 2015
*19 state qualifiers in the pole vault since 2007, 4 state finalists and 2 all state trackletes
*21 all conference pole vaulters out of 22 possible honors since 2009
*5 4×800 meter relay state qualifying teams along with several trackletes qualifying for state in the 800 meter run, 3200 meter run, 110 meter hurdles, shot put and high jump
*Average team sizes of ~35 boys in xc and 75+ boys in track and field team each year with a total school population just over 900 (~16% of school’s male population)
